Have It All. Can You?

Yes, this is Jason Mraz’ song, and I had heard it before I realized what it means. Until someone brought the text right onto my face and I stood and wonder if it meant as sarcasm or if it's truly a wish, whichever I think this is a good topic for women to talk about.

Can We Really Have It All?

I honestly don’t know the answers. I was raised by a belief system that we can't have it all and that we need to prioritize on what's urgent vs important. What's essential and significant. It's my mom's voice on my head, "Mana yang genting? Mana yang penting?"

The most important question to ask ourselves would be,

"What is the definition of 'All' that we really want to have?"

When you refine your definition, understand what values contributed through those, fully aware of the trade offs that you need to make, and willing to make it happens. Then yes one may have it all.

One of my client recently described that she wants it all, a good career, a good family, a good life. She made it sounds very ambitious until I listened deeper beyond what she really want, she just wanted the best for her children and manage to support her husband to fulfill the household. She felt like she owes her children a good future. Coming from not-so-fortunate family, seeing how her single mom made a living for her and the family, she learnt the value of 'Working-it-all-out". Unfortunately, the story behind are often unseen, I found them broken and hurt by the judgment that society stamped on them, and by the label that their co-worker put on them. This, my dear friends, reminds me to always be kind to people, as we never really know what one had to gone through to be at their place now.

For me, "All" is what I have now. Universe has always be kind to me. Allowing me to look back and see how I made so far and having my question answered, one by one, revealing its wisdom in a way that made myself chukles.

I was asked by my mentor, 'if ever you could choose 1 of your career what would it be?' I answered by 'should I choose, what if I can make it works for all to have?'

And that's true. I do things I love doing. And I became the the person whom I love being. There are trade offs of course, but as long as we are aware and ready for the price to pay, I would say yes, you can have it all.

Raise our awareness that to have it all, means that we have to be smarter in defining what we truly wants and needs, we need to do better time management and understand priorities and consequences.

Have it all comes with a great price of which not careful one may end up hurting oneself and the surroundings.

Listening to the lyrics, somehow I feel like raising a glass to all the beautiful women out there, who struggles because they want to provide a better life for the people who matter most in her life, to say it out loud that women works is often not by choice but a life design. And from the deepest soul, I pray for all, may you have it all and be in peace...

Enjoy the song!

May you have auspiciousness and causes of success May you have the confidence to always do your best May you take no effort in your being generous Sharing what you can, nothing more nothing less May you know the meaning of the word happiness May you always lead from the beating in your chest May you be treated like an esteemed guest May you get to rest, may you catch your breath And may the best of your todays be the worst of your tomorrows And may the road less paved be the road that you follow Well here's to the hearts that you're gonna break Here's to the lives that you're gonna change Here's to the infinite possible ways to love you I want you to have it Here's to the good times we're gonna have You don’t need money, you got a free pass Here's to the fact that I'll be sad without you I want you to have it all Oh! I want you to have it all I want you to have it I want you to have it all May you be as fascinating as a slap bracelet May you keep the chaos and the clutter off your desk May you have unquestionable health and less stress Having no possessions though immeasurable wealth May you get a gold star on your next test May your educated guesses always be correct And may you win prizes shining like diamonds May you really own it each moment to the next And may the best of your todays be the worst of your tomorrows And may the road less paved be the road that you follow Well here's to the hearts that you're gonna break Here's to the lives that you're gonna change Here's to the infinite possible ways to love you I want you to have it Here's to the good times we're gonna have You don’t need money, you got a free pass Here's to the fact that I'll be sad without you I want you to have it all Oh, I want you to have it all I want you to have it I want you to have it all Oh, I want you to have it all All you can imagine All, no matter what your path is If you believe it then anything can happen Go, go, go raise your glasses Go, go, go you can have it all I toast you Here's to the hearts that you're gonna break Here's to the lives that you're gonna change Here's to the infinite possible ways to love you I want you to have it Here's to the good times we're gonna have You don’t need money, you got a free pass Here's to the fact that I'll be sad without you I want you to have it all Oh, I want you to have it all I want you to have it I want you to have it all Here's to the good times we're gonna have Here's to you always making me laugh Here's to the fact that I'll be sad without you I want you to have it all Songwriters: Becky Gebhardt / Mai Bloomfield / Mona Tavakoli / Chaska Potter / Jacob Kasher / David Hodges / Jason Mraz Have It All lyrics © Kobalt Music Publishing Ltd.
